Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari has refused to comment on the recent speculation which has linked Jose Mourinho with a return to the Bernabeu. The Portuguese tactician has been earmarked as the favourite to become Los Blancos’ next head coach, but Solari has declined to speak on the story by citing his commitment to the club.
“The first is Real Valladolid tomorrow. It’s a tough moment, a difficult moment. You can keep doing your job, I will keep doing mine. It’s not easy for the fans, we’re a club that is used to winning, we’ve been through a glorious period and after being knocked out there is sadness of course, but also applause at what we have been achieved.”
At the start of last month, Real Madrid had the chance to compete for silverware through the Copa del Rey and the Champions League but that no longer remains the case. Real Madrid were ousted from the Copa del Rey after a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Barcelona at the semi-final and this has shortly been followed by another disappointment with Ajax securing a shock 4-1 win over them at the Bernabeu to oust them from the Champions League.
As such, they are set to experience an unprecedented trophyless season when the club World Cup success is ignored and this should frustrate both the club and the supporters. Mourinho has been heavily tipped to return to Los Blancos since the recent Ajax embarrassment and reports indicate that the move could be announced before the end of the month.
